Gabon Agroforestry Center  //  Libreville, Gabon (West Africa)  //  Spring 2014

Critic: Dan Wood

This proposal for a National Agroforestry Center located in Gabon’s capital city of Libreville aims to be the center of an effort to promote economic and food security.

Research labs and classrooms encircling an open atrium allow scientists and students access to all levels of the rainforest ecosystem. Public facilities such as the library, auditoriums, market and restaurant provide welcoming spaces for visitors and locals to learn and participate in the effort to promote agriculture and conservation while fostering the economy.

The Center’s location at the head of the Libreville’s river provides an opportunity to clean and filter the city’s water, providing an added social and environmental value.
